Private Practice
Clinical Academics are normally granted a right of private practice by The University of Western Australia.
For the purposes of this clause, "Private Patient" shall mean:
"in relation to a public hospital, an inpatient of the hospital who is not a patient for whom the hospital has accepted responsibility to provide medical services. A private patient elects to accept responsibility to pay for medical care and the provision of hospital services. Patients who are covered under Workers' Compensation or the Motor Vehicle Insurance Trust legislation/policies are deemed to be private patients for the purposes of this agreement".
For the purposes of this section and where the Clinical Academic is in receipt of the special clinical loading, the Medical Superintendent or equivalent position of the Teaching Hospital in which the Clinical Academic works shall have the right to confirm or reject the exercise of a right of private practice.
Where this right is confirmed, the following shall apply :
(a) Where the Clinical Academic was appointed prior to the operative date of this agreement and was receiving the benefits of a 16% private practice loading in lieu of retaining private practice payments the Clinical Academic shall have the choice of operating under the provisions of subclause 6.1 or 6.2 of this agreement. This arrangement may only be subsequently amended during the life of this agreement by agreement between the Teaching Hospital and the Clinical Academic.
(b) Other Clinical Academics may apply to the Teaching Hospital for access to the arrangement in clause 6.1 The Teaching Hospital may grant such access at its discretion. |
