What is Enterprise Bargaining?
Enterprise Bargaining involves negotiating wages and conditions for employees in a specific workplace. Like most organisations around Australia, The University of Western Australia has in place formal arrangements with employee representatives and unions to negotiate conditions of work through Enterprise Bargaining.
The first Enterprise Bargaining Agreements were negotiated at the University in 1994. They have been regularly re-negotiated since that time. Recent legislative changes now refer to these types of agreements as Enterprise Agreements.
What is an Enterprise Agreement?
An Enterprise Agreement generally sit sabove an Award and regulates the wages and conditions of employees covered by that Agreement. An Agreement negotiated between an employer and a Union or group of Unions is a Union Collective Agreement. The Academic and General Staff Agreements are Union Collective Agreements.
A Collective Agreement may even be specific to a certain group of employees, as occurs at the University with the Childcare Employees' Agreement. This enables employees and employers to tailor matters to best suit the workplace in which they work. These are known as Employee Collective Agreements.
