UWA recognises the religious and cultural diversity of its community. To this end, the University offers a range of supports and entitlements to assist staff in managing their work and cultural/religious commitments, and to assist their managers and supervisors in supporting those commitments.
The University adopts an inclusive definition of family which encompasses a wide range of relationships which may include one or more of the following: blood, marriage, affinity, adoption and dependency. This definition is broad, reflecting the diversity of society. Family responsibilities therefore includes responsibilities associated with extended families and religious or community structures.
To assist staff and their managers and supervisors in local area planning and allowing for religious and cultural diversity, the University has an Interfaith Calendar which details the key dates for the major religious groups represented on campus.
Ceremonial/Cultural leave is available to assist staff to meet their customs, traditional law and participation in ceremonial or cultural activities. Indigenous Australian staff are entitled to a further two days cultural/ceremonial leave per calendar year. The University recognises the importance of NAIDOC week to Indigenous Australian staff and supports their participation in NAIDOC week activities.
The University also has prayer and worship facilities on the Crawley campus.
