GRIEVANCE AND COMPLAINT PROCEDURES FOR STAFF
The University is committed to providing an environment of integrity and respect for all staff and fosters the values of openness, honesty, tolerance, fairness and responsibility in social and moral, as well as academic, matters. In order to assist staff who are faced with circumstances in which they feel aggrieved, the University has a range of mechanisms available. Think about the type of problem you are experiencing. CONDUCT IN THE WORKPLACECode of Ethics and Code of Conduct This Code of Ethics is a statement of the ethical principles, values and behaviours expected of staff and students at The University of Western Australia.
Guidelines for Conduct in the Workplace These guidelines apply to all members of the University community who believe the professional integrity of their work or study environment has been compromised by one or more persons engaging in intimidating and/or inappropriate behaviour. It identifies processes for students, staff, managers, including heads of school to follow in attempting to resolve such difficulties.
Sexual Harassment This policy and procedures are designed to resolve complaints of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment covers a range of behaviours which constitute a verbal, visual or physical affront of a sexual nature to a person. The distinguishing characteristics of sexual harassment are that it is conduct with a sexual component which is unwelcome, unsolicited and unreciprocated.
Racial Harassment Racial Harassment is any verbal, physical or written act which is based on a person's race, ethnic background, nationality, language or cultural background, and is unwanted, unacceptable and offensive to the person.
Dealing with Equity Enquiries and Grievances This document outlines the policy and procedures for use by Faculties and Central Administration in dealing with enquires and complaints of discrimination and harassment by both staff and students.
AGREEMENT BASED PROCEDURESAcademic Staff Agreement 2006 — Schedule G – Procedures for the Settlement of Grievances This provision is designed to provide a process for academic staff to seek resolution of personal conflict and/or grievances.
Academic Staff Agreement 2006 — Other Provisions (Clause 45) Dispute Settling Procedures This provision provides a mechanism for academic staff to seek resolution of disputes or grievances regarding conditions of employment.
General Staff Agreement 2006 — Disputes and Grievances (Clause 52) Grievance Settlement Procedures This provision is designed to provide a mechanism for general staff to seek resolution of grievances relating to conditions of employment.
ELICOS Teachers Agreement 2005 — Other Provisions (Clause 40) Dispute Settling Procedures This provision provides a mechanism for English Second Language Teachers to seek resolution of disputes or grievances regarding conditions of employment.
Childcare Employees Agreement 2005 — Other Provisions (Clause 43) Dispute Settling Procedures This provision provides a mechanism for Childcare Staff to seek resolution of disputes or grievances regarding conditions of employment.
OTHERResolving Safety Issues Under the University Occupational Safety and Health Policy employees, students and contractors are required to report all known or observed hazards, incidents and injuries. The Safety and Health Issue Resolution Process steps out the required escalation process to assist in resolving such issues.
Research Ethics and Research Misconduct Research and the pursuit of the truth are vital functions of this University. The broad principles that guide research have long been established, and central to these are the maintenance of high ethical standards, and validity and accuracy in the collection and reporting of data. The Guidelines on Research Ethics and Research Misconduct provide a framework for sound research practice and for the protection of individual research workers, including both staff and postgraduate research students, from possible misunderstandings.
Code of Good Practice for Postgraduate Student Research and Supervision This Code is provided for Candidates enrolled in Graduate Research degrees at the University, including Masters degrees by research, PhD's and professional doctorates; Candidates enrolled in Masters and PhD preliminary courses; supervisors and co-supervisors of graduate Candidates; heads of School and of other academic units in which graduate Candidate research can be conducted.

This is a brief guide for members of the University to the use of language that avoids expressions offensive to some groups in society.
