About Perth

About Perth | Lifestyle | Beyond Perth | Useful Websites

Perth, the city of lights, located on Australia’s prestige western coast is the Capital of Western Australia and is acclaimed by many to be one of the most attractive cities in the world. Perth is a cosmopolitan city with a population of almost 1.4 million people.

The city centre (CBD) is a well balanced mixture: elegant colonial buildings sitting alongside the steel and glass giants blending the old-fashioned friendliness with a slick modern aspect.

UWA is situated on the Swan River, which borders the city centre to the south linking Perth to its port, Fremantle (“Freo” to the locals). Fremantle is famous for the “Americas Cup” yacht race held on the waters in Gage Roads, off Fremantle, the port city in 1987.

Suburbs, from Yanchep in the North to Mandurah in the South and East to the Darling Ranges provide a wide range of residential housing styles from townhouses, apartments, single dwelling, to acreages on the outskirts of the city.

LIFESTYLE

Renowned for its relaxed easygoing lifestyle, amongst a multicultural society, Perth has a range of leisure activities from arts, museums and theatre to sports, beaches and dining. There is no shortage of shopping, ranging from the markets, to the City, Subiaco and Claremont along with the large suburban shopping complexes.

With a Mediterranean-style climate this allows the idyllic outdoor lifestyle with alfresco dining in many of its restaurants or cafes. Western Australians are sports lovers and a vast range of sports are viewed and played. Australian Rules football, golf, netball, basketball, tennis, baseball, soccer, rugby and cricket to name a few.

BEYOND PERTH

Venture beyond Perth and you will discover a land as vast as any in the world. Along the coastline to the North West are regions such as Central WA coast, famous for fishing, camping, snorkelling, diving and the pristine beaches where you can enjoy the attractions of Coral bay (Ningaloo Reef), Karijini National Park and Monkey Mia. Further along the coast in the Kimberley region will see you enjoy Broome with Darwin situated in the Northern Territory. The South West coast includes the Margaret River region, famous worldwide for its wines and Pemberton Region with its tall Karri trees and spectacular coastal scenery.
