Atakelty Hailu, Lecturer, School of Agriculture and Resource Economics (BSc, MSc, PhD)
I was a researcher based in Canada when a peer from UWA showed me photos and spoke so highly of Perth and of the University.
It seemed so colourful, bright and friendly, with plenty of space and a wonderful climate all yeard round. When the opportunity came, my wife and I decdied we just had to make the move. Human Resources and my School made our relocation was easy, with temporary accommodation close to campus. The small research grant was helpful in kick-starting my career. We found we settled in with ease. hide this section |

UWA has afforded me with a lifestyle that gives me the academic freedom to follow my passion and pursue research in mathematics.
I have a fantastic career. In roles such as elected member of Senate and Deputy Dean of my Faculty I have been involved in the functioning of the University and interact with the community and Government. As a result of my career, I'm in a position to support early career researchers, leadership development for women and various research and leadership programmes hide this section |

Mitch Benson, Carpenter
As a child I would travel from Sydney to compete in sailing at the Mounts Bay Yacht Club. I didn't realise that the University was across the road, let alone that one day I would move to Perth and work here.
I have the best job as I get to travel around the campus – the University really has its own city. Everyone makes you feel welcome. hide this section |

Margaret Seares, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor (AO, MA, PhD, FAICD)
I often walk to work in the mornings, and walking through the beautiful grounds lift the spirits, something that doesn't always occur in the workplace.
The University is a very flexible employer. For example, generous study leave, the best student:staff ratios in the Country (barring the UNSW Defence Academy!), flexible leave and salary packaging options and great food and coffee at the University Club. And we're only 20 minutes to the beach, 40 minutes from the nearest vineyard and an hour from pristine bush. Why wouldn't you work here! hide this section |

Marilyn Strother, Community Liaison Officer, School of Indigenous Studies
It makes me feel good to see students progress from not having the academic skills to come through the School and graduate in their chosen field of study. They are often the first in their family to get their degree.
Shenton House is like a second home for the students. Family members join us at Shenton for community meetings. Although its work, its also social. Its a great place to work. hide this section |

Maria Ximena, Hackett Catering Supervisor (Private company employee)
I have become more confident from meeting people and keeping their friendship even when they leave the University. The work hours mean that I have time to do the shopping, continue with my water colour painting, gardening and sewing.
I will take my long service leave and travel to Columbia with my family to visit other family members and show them Cartagena, a restored colonial Spanish city. hide this section |

Siddique Kadambot, Chair in Agriculture, Director of UWA Institute of Agriculture (BSc, Hons, MSc, PhD, FTSE)
I have a stong sense of belonging and really feel that I am part of this exciting University.
Its size means that it is friendly and everyone's contributions are valued. I get to interact with senior management, I know what's happening and there is an air of excitement among staff and students. For early career academics, UWA offers international reputation and standing, the opportunity to access basic and demand driven applied research and make a real difference at state and national levels. Whats more, Western Australia is a wonderful place to raise your family. hide this section |

Tony Phan, Research Fellow, School of Dentistry (BSc Hons, MSc, PhD)
I really enjoy working at UWA - I have freedom to do my own research. The flexible hours mean I can research after hours and spend time with my family.
It is ideal for early career researchers, such as the not-so-very-small grant scheme of up to $20,000 and the supportive Research Services staff are helpful and friendly. I met my wife while researcyhing at UWA. It doesn't get any better than that! hide this section |

Keith Rappa, Faculty Manager, UWA Business School (BCom, MBA)
It is fantastic to be back on campus! The whole environment makes for an exciting work experience and one that more readily lends itself to a more balanced lifestyle.
These are also exciting times for the UWA Business School and my role provides an opportunity to influence the strategic direction of the Faculty. What better opportunity than to work with the most strategic and influential business leaders and academic thinkers within this State, if not the country. hide this section |

I love the picturesque journey to work and when I get here, I really enjoy my colleagues, they're my friends. Flexible hours of work mean that I can work smart but also leave early to go to the gym.
My dream job is to combine my commercial experience with health research where I can design, implement and evaulate projects. I can keep up with the latest in health science through the library. My supervisors keep me posted with upcoming job opportuntiies and I can check the internal job adverts. hide this section |

I enjoy the freedom to structure my own work schedule and collaborate on projects with academic staff.
The ability to blend teaching in research and writing skills workshops with more administrative duties appeals to me. I enjoy the culture of respect and collegiality ... the undercurrent of enthusiasm and the opportunity to attend interstate conferences.
