B - 41.1 Resignation

41.1.1 Academic Staff

Tenured or fixed-term academic staff members are required to give six months’ written notice of resignation but with the concurrence of the head of the school a shorter period of notice may be accepted by the Dean on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor. Short term appointees are expected to give reasonable notice which is usually interpreted as at least an academic term.

Human Resources should be advised immediately a resignation is submitted to ensure that all salary, leave credits and other entitlements are attended to prior to the date of resignation. It is not possible to ensure payment of entitlements by resignation date unless the advice reaches Human Resources two weeks prior to that date.

41.1.2 General Staff

Ongoing and fixed-term employees not on probation are required to give one month’s notice in writing or to forfeit a month’s salary in lieu of giving that notice. However, by mutual agreement a shorter period of notice can be arranged in special circumstances. Ongoing and fixed-term appointees still on probation are required to give two weeks’ notice or to forfeit a fortnight’s salary in lieu of giving that notice.

Human Resources should be advised immediately a resignation is submitted to ensure that all salary, leave credits and other entitlements are attended to prior to the date of resignation. It is not possible to ensure payment of entitlements by the resignation date unless the advice reaches Human Resources two weeks prior to that date.
