We are looking for tutors for the undergraduate medical program units Foundations of Clinical Practice (Year 1) for 2010. Foundations of Clinical Practice (FCP) are a series of units in the first years of the undergraduate medical course. The units cover an integrated program with four disciplines involved – Population Health, Behavioural Science, Aboriginal Health, and clinical skills.
Year 1 – Communication Skills
In Year 1 the students go through an introductory program in communications skills and interviewing and we are looking for individuals to facilitate these small group tutorials. Tutors with a psychology background are strongly encouraged to apply.
Each tutorial is 2 hours long and is held on Friday (11am-1pm and 2pm-4pm) in Semester 1 2010. Tutor training sessions will be held throughout the semester from 1-2pm on Friday to provide training and course materials. An initial tutor training session will conducted one to two weeks before semester begins on the 22nd February 2010.
Tutors will be paid at a rate of $58.21 per hour for tutorials and $33.58 per hour for tutor training meetings.

We are looking for tutors with a health related and/or science degree for the undergraduate medical program units Foundations of Clinical Practice for 2010. Foundations of Clinical Practice (FCP) are a series of units in the first three years of the undergraduate medical course. The units cover an integrated program with four disciplines involved – Population Health, Behavioural Science, Aboriginal Health, and clinical skills (this is taught by other tutors). Each discipline is covered each year, with a different emphasis in each of the years.
Year 1 FCP - Tutorial Sessions
The emphasis in this year is to give students an overview of Australia’s health, the determinants of health and study vulnerable populations including exploring culture and health. The students also study cardiovascular health, respiratory disease and communicable disease control with each topic exploring the relevant issues. People with a health related degree would be suitable for this tutoring.
Year 2 FCP – Tutorial Sessions
In this year the students study lifespan development, preventive medicine, musculoskeletal disease, mental health, substance use, injury control and chronic disease management.
Year 3 FCP
In this year there is a greater emphasis on the clinical case and people with a science and/or clinical background (e.g. medicine, nursing, physiotherapy) would be advantageous. Modules covering the following systems – Respiratory, psychiatry, neurology, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, haematology and chronic illness. There is a variety of issues that are explored in each module.
The tutorials utilise a case-based or problem-based learning approach. Training in this teaching method will be provided before commencement. Tutors are not required to experts in all of these subject areas as appropriate tutor training and support materials are provided and the tutorial are about facilitating learning. However a broad health related and/ or science background is an advantage.
The tutorials are each 2 hours long and are held on the following days in Semester 1:
Year 1 - Monday afternoons
Year 2 - Monday mornings
Year 3 – Tuesday mornings (till 2pm)
Tutor training will conducted one to two weeks before semester begins on 22nd February 2010.
Salary range starts from Level A Lecturer $53,452 p.a. (minimum starting salary for appointee with PhD will be $70,058 p.a.). Each tutorial is equivalent to 0.1 FTE (this comprises a 2 hour tutorial per week, tutor preparation, and associated marking).
